FAQ

Q. How strong is the encryption?
A. Files are encrypted using AES256 standard. So a 256 bit key can have 1.1579209x1077 combinations. This means if you have 1 trillion computers breaking 1 billion passwords every second it will still take over a billion years!!!

Q. What is AES256?
A. AES or Advanced Encryption Standard is the strongest encrypting method in use today. A file encrypted using 256bit Key will almost require over a billion years to break.
For more details on AES, refer Google and Wikipedia.

Q. How will I encrypt my file?
A. Click on Encrypt button, choose your file and enter your KEY.

Q. What is a KEY?
A. KEY is a secret password that you choose for your file encryption.

Q. What should be the length of my KEY?

A. Try to use at least 6 characters KEY.

Note! If you use smaller KEY your files are still encrypted using 256bit KEY.

Q. What is the maximum size of the KEY?
A. KEY can have maximum 32 characters.

Q. How will I decrypt my encrypted file?
A. Click on Decrypt button, choose your encrypted file and enter the KEY that you used while encrypting it.

Q. What is the output of encryption?
A. You will get a .dyctx file after the encryption process gets complete.

Q. What is a process?
A. A process (or an item) is a file that you have selected for encryption or decryption. All the processes are present in the list.

Q. What is a list?
A. A list is a container which holds all your processes (or items).

Q. How will I resume a paused process?
A. Double click on the process and click on the PLAY button. You will be asked to enter the KEY you used for that process. Enter it and the process starts.

Q. How will I remove a process from my List?
A. Double click on the process click on the delete button [bin icon] and the process will be deleted.

Q. How will I remove all the processes from my List?
A. Click on Settings button and click on Clear List button. All the processes will be deleted permanently.

Q. How will I edit my profile or change my log in password?
A. Click on Settings button and then click on Edit button. After making changes click on Save button.

Q. What is TDP?
A. TDP or Total Data Processed stores the information about the amount of data DY Cryptex has encrypted and decrypted for you.

Q. Can I share my encrypted file with my friends?
A. Yes you can. But your friends will only be able to view the original content only after decrypting it using the KEY you used for encryption.

Q. Will they need DY Cryptex for decrypting my encrypted files?
A. Yes

Q. How many processes can I add to my list?
A. Version 3.0 allows you to add up to 24 processes.

Q. How many processes can I run simultaneously?
A. You can run 10 processes simultaneously.

Note! Performance will depend on the machine the software is running. There exists a direct relationship. More processes running together will take more resources (CPU/RAM) of your computer.

You can run more than 10 processes but it is recommended that you check your computer performance by running few processes initially.

Q. Can I view the encrypted file content using text editors?
A. You can use any text editor and view the content of the .dyctx file.

CAUTION: If you try to open bigger encrypted files in text editor like (Notepad, Notepad++ etc.) it may take a long time to load. Don’t worry. This generally happens while opening any big files (song or video files) in text editor.
